The location felt particularly appropriate to founder Joe Mills, whose own career has been closely connected to London’s creative communities.

As Joe says:

“There’s an authenticity to the area, that I love. You can just feel the history, even though there are parts that are new, redeveloped or repurposed. There’s also an undercurrent which is a reminder of my early days in Soho; that community feeling and a sense of belonging that might not be so obvious on the surface.”

Developing Woolf on Chalton Street also brought a more personal connection to the area into focus for Joe.

“Spending time around the area, and especially Coal Drops Yard, I realised how much of my own history was around here.

“For a long while I was a hairdresser by day and DJ or promoter by night.

“Coming back and spending time here reminded me of that time around The Cross and Bagleys – an important creative element in my life and the local area and part of the energy.”

Today, Woolf is part of that continuing story: a modern London hair salon in King’s Cross, rooted in its local neighbourhood while connected to the wider creative culture of the city.
